A wonderful example of original Art Nouveau period jewelry. This Antique Art Nouveau Amethyst and Seed Pearl Brooch dates circa 1890 and is composed of solid 14K Gold with a Rose Gold hue. The center holds a lovely deep rich Amethyst gemstone smoothly cabochin polished on top with facets on the reverse to catch the light, a popular treatment for stones during the Era. There are Four (4) additional faceted Amethysts adorning the corners of the brooch. There are delicate Seed Pearls set down the center of the brooch design, a most popular element of this period. Additionally there are applied Green Gold Leaves, this multicolored Gold work represents some of the finest work of the time. The entire brooch measures about 2 inches long by about 9/16 inch wide and is in beautiful estate condition. It closes on the reverse with a safety style catch, an early replacement to make it more secure when worn as it originally had a C style clasp. It is in beautiful overall condition with a bit of wear to the center stone appropriate to its age, mentioned only for accuracy as I always do as the photos exagerate with refection and magnification. A beautiful original example from a very short lived movement of some of the most beautiful jewelry ever made.
